SAFEROUTE

LIVE DISPATCH DATA · SEVEN CITIES

What tonight actually looks like.

For cities whose police publish dispatch data fast enough, SafeRoute maps the calls officers responded to — filtered to real incidents, from official sources. No alerts. No user reports. No panic. Just the night, as it is. Pick a city below.

Where this is going next

A city joins when its feed passes three tests, measured live — fresh enough to mean "tonight", geolocated, and classifiable so dispatch noise (alarms, traffic stops, welfare checks) can be filtered out rather than dressed up as crime. Most cities fail on the second.

Dallas, Los Angeles & Baltimore — feeds are live, but publish no coordinates New York — dispatch data publishes quarterly Kansas City — runs about two weeks behind Chicago — no public dispatch feed at all

How it works — and what it deliberately isn't

The dots are 911 calls police responded to, from each city's official dispatch feed, kept only when the call type describes an actual offence — a burglary call survives, a noise complaint doesn't. Locations are block-level as published by the source. The layer never touches the safety index, which stays on report-grade data: dispatch tells you about tonight, reports tell you about an area. Mixing them would corrupt both.

The window differs by city because the publishing does. San Francisco posts calls within minutes, so it is a genuine "tonight". Seattle publishes a few days behind, so it is shown as a week and labelled that way rather than pretending to be live. Each city states its own window and how often its feed updates, because a map that looks quiet is meaningless until you know whether the next batch has landed.

And it is not an alert system. No push notifications, no "danger near you", no user-submitted sightings. Apps built on alarm have their place; this isn't one of them. SafeRoute's job is the walk home — the same data, in a register you can actually use to make a decision.
